Address
747 Kapahulu Ave, Honolulu, HI 96816
Hours
Tue–Sat 9 AM–4 PM; closed Sun–Mon

Small takeout poke counter on Kapahulu Avenue, about a mile from Waikiki. Poke is sold over rice or as a plate; seating is limited, so most orders go out the door.

  • Closed Sunday and Monday, every week
  • Cash-and-carry style: order at the counter, take it to go

2. Poke & Box

Build-your-own poke box stall in Ala Moana Center's Makai Market Food Court. Pick a base of white rice, brown rice, or salad, then fish such as ahi or salmon — plus tofu and chicken options — with toppings and sauces like traditional shoyu, wasabi mustard, or creamy sesame.

Planning tips

Go early

Ono Seafood closes at 4 PM, Tanioka's at 2 PM, and Alicia's Market at 2 PM. Poke shops on this list are lunch plays, not dinner — plan accordingly.

Mind the closed days

Ono Seafood is closed Sunday–Monday, Tanioka's is closed Monday–Tuesday, Alicia's Market is closed Sunday, and Fresh Catch is closed Monday. Check the day before you drive.

Near Waikiki vs. worth the drive

Ono Seafood and Fresh Catch are on Kapahulu Avenue near Waikiki; Poke & Box is at Ala Moana. Tanioka's (Waipahu) and Alicia's Market (Kalihi) take more effort but are market-style stops with poke by the pound.

Takeout is the norm

Most of these spots are counters or markets with little to no seating. Plan to take your poke to the beach or a nearby park.

Poke FAQ

What is poke?

Poke (poh-keh) is cubed raw fish — usually ahi tuna — seasoned with shoyu, sesame oil, sea salt, and onions. It's served over rice, as a plate, or by itself. Traditional Hawaiian-style poke keeps the seasoning simple; modern shops add spicy mayo, ponzu, and other sauces.

Where can I get poke near Waikiki?

Ono Seafood (747 Kapahulu Ave) and Fresh Catch (1113 Kapahulu Ave) are both on Kapahulu Avenue, about a mile from Waikiki. Poke & Box is in Ala Moana Center's Makai Market Food Court, a short drive or bus ride west.

Is poke always raw fish?

Traditional poke is raw fish. If you'd rather not eat raw fish, Poke & Box lists tofu and chicken among its protein options — you can build a fully cooked box there.

Can I buy poke by the pound?

Yes — Tanioka's and Alicia's Market are market-style counters where poke is sold by weight from the case, which is handy for feeding a group or sampling several kinds.
