Marugame Udon Waikiki: Menu, Prices & What to Order (2026 Local Guide)
The only guide you need — real prices, insider ordering tips, and how to beat the line at Waikiki's most popular udon shop.
Everyone tells you to eat at Marugame Udon Waikiki. Nobody tells you how to eat at Marugame Udon Waikiki.
I walked past this place dozens of times and every single time there was a line wrapping down the sidewalk. Tourists standing in the Hawaiian sun, some holding umbrellas, all waiting for a bowl of noodles. For months I kept thinking — there's no way noodles are worth that.
I was wrong.
We finally jumped in line on a rainy Sunday evening around 5:30 PM. Waited about 30 minutes, got inside at 6:00, had our food and were seated by 6:08, and walked out at 6:35 spending under $45 for two people. In Waikiki. Where a mediocre burger costs $22.
This is everything I wish someone had told me before my first visit — the actual menu prices (which Marugame doesn't publish online), what to order, how the ordering line works, and exactly when to show up so you're not standing outside for an hour.

Quick Facts: Marugame Udon Waikiki
Hours last updated from Google: Apr 30, 2026
Note: This restaurant was previously called "Marukame Udon" (with a K). The name changed to "Marugame" in 2023–2024 to match the global brand. Same restaurant, same food, same location — just new spelling.
What Is Marugame Udon?
Marugame Udon is a Japanese chain that specializes in Sanuki-style udon — thick, chewy noodles made fresh in-store every single day. The Waikiki location was their very first restaurant outside Japan when it opened in 2011, and it's become one of the most visited restaurants on the island with over 14,000 Yelp reviews.
The parent company, Toridoll Holdings, now operates over 1,200 Marugame locations worldwide. But the Waikiki shop holds a special place — it's the original that proved this concept could work outside Japan.
What makes it special: you literally watch them make your noodles. Through the open kitchen, you can see the dough being kneaded, rolled, cut into thick noodles, and boiled right before your eyes. Fresh udon noodles lose their signature chewy texture within 20 to 30 minutes of being made, so the fact that yours go from counter to bowl in seconds matters.
If you're searching for the best ramen in Waikiki, honestly, skip the ramen and come here instead. This is better, cheaper, and faster than any ramen spot in the neighborhood.

Price context: A basic Kake udon was around $3.75 back in 2016. It's now $6.49 — prices have gone up, but this is still one of the cheapest quality sit-down meals in all of Waikiki, where most restaurant entrées start at $18 to $25.
What to Order at Marugame Udon Waikiki
Here's the thing — when you get inside, the line moves fast and there are people behind you. I made the mistake of not deciding beforehand. There were so many options that I panicked, forgot what I had picked out while waiting, and just told the guy behind the counter to give me the most expensive thing on the menu.
Don't be me. Pick your order before you walk in.
My Recommendation: The Nikutama Udon
The Nikutama Udon ($12.99) is their most popular dish and it deserves the hype. Sweet, savory beef over thick chewy noodles with a soft-boiled egg that oozes into the broth. It has a 94% approval rating across thousands of delivery reviews. This is the one.
What I Actually Ordered
My Receipt — February 15, 2026
- Nikutama Udon (Regular)$12.95
- Premium Tendon$15.75
- Cheese Tempura$2.25
- Crab Meat Tempura$2.99
- Spam Musubi$2.99
- Total (with tax + tip)$44.42
Two people ate until stuffed. Try doing that anywhere else in Waikiki.
The cheese tempura surprised me — it's like elevated mozzarella sticks, crispy outside and melty inside. The beef in the Nikutama was tender and the whole bowl had this savory sweetness that kept me going back for more. For this price you can't beat it at any other restaurant in the area.
Order Tiers Based on Your Budget
Best First Visit ~$18
Nikutama Udon ($12.99) + shrimp tempura + cheese tempura. The signature dish plus the two best tempura options.
Budget Meal ~$11
Kake Udon ($6.49) + 2 tempura pieces. A full, satisfying meal in Waikiki for about eleven dollars.
Go All Out ~$25
Premium Tendon ($15.75) + Nikutama Udon to share + 3–4 tempura pieces from the counter.
Hot Day Pick
Cold BK Udon ($6.49). When it's 85°F and humid, cold udon with umami-rich dashi sauce is a game-changer. Available hot or cold.
🌱 Vegan Option
Tan Tan Udon ($13.49) — spicy sesame chili broth with ground soy and seasonal veggies. One of the few legit vegan meals in Waikiki.
How to Order at Marugame Udon (Step-by-Step)
Marugame uses a cafeteria-style ordering system that confuses a lot of first-timers. Here's exactly how it works so you don't hold up the line.
Study the menu while you wait in line
The menu boards are visible from outside. Decide what you want BEFORE you get to the counter. Trust me on this one.
Grab a tray
When staff let you inside, pick up a tray near the entrance.
Order your udon at the counter
Tell the staff three things: which dish, hot or cold, and Regular or Large. They'll make it right in front of you.
Slide along the tempura counter
This is the fun part. Grab a small white plate and pick whatever tempura catches your eye. The items closest to the fryer are the freshest — look for ones still glistening, not sitting under heat lamps.
Pay at the register
Everything on your tray gets tallied at the end of the line. All major credit cards accepted.
Hit the free condiment station
Green onions, ginger, sesame seeds, wasabi, tempura dipping sauce, soy sauce — all free. This is where you customize your bowl. Don't skip it.
Find a seat and eat
When you're done, bus your own tray to the return shelf. The exit is on the opposite side from the entrance — a smart design that keeps the ordering line flowing.
🚀 Skip the Line: Order To-Go
I asked the manager directly about this. You can skip the entire dine-in line — walk through the door and look for the red "Order To Go" sign. You'll order at a separate counter and get your food without waiting in the main queue. The catch: if you order to-go, you can't sit inside. Grab your food and eat it on a bench outside, take it to the beach, or bring it back to your hotel — still the same fresh noodles.

You get 10 free noodle points just for signing up, then earn 1 point per dollar spent. Free udon adds up fast if you're visiting multiple times during your trip.
How Long Is the Line at Marugame Udon Waikiki?
This is the number one question every tourist has. Here's the real answer based on my experience and hundreds of reviews.
The line looks terrifying. The first time I saw it wrap around the block, I kept walking. But here's what nobody tells you: the line moves incredibly fast. The cafeteria assembly system is so efficient that even 40 to 50 people deep, you'll be seated within 15 to 20 minutes. We waited about 30 minutes on a rainy Sunday evening — joined the line at 5:30 PM, got inside by 6:00, and had our food at 6:08. Some people near us said they've waited up to an hour on busy days.
| Time | Estimated Wait | My Take |
|---|---|---|
| 10:00–11:00 AM | 0–10 min | Best time. Walk right in. |
| 11:00 AM–1:00 PM | 30–60+ min | Lunch rush. Avoid. |
| 1:00–2:00 PM | 20–35 min | Starting to thin out |
| 2:00–4:00 PM | 5–15 min | ⭐Sweet spot. This is when you go. |
| 4:00–5:00 PM | 10–20 min | Building for dinner |
| 5:00–8:00 PM | 30–60+ min | Dinner rush. Another avoid. |
| 8:00–9:00 PM | 15–30 min | Thinning |
| After 9:00 PM | 5–15 min | Short line, kitchen closes at 10 |
My recommendation: Go between 2:00 and 4:00 PM. You'll walk in with almost no wait. Right at opening (10 AM) also works. Rainy days tend to have shorter lines too.
Heads up: There's roughly a 30-minute dine-in limit. The manager confirmed this — they need to keep tables turning when the line is out the door. During slower times they're not strict about it, but during the dinner rush they will enforce it. It's plenty of time to eat (udon isn't a slow meal), but don't plan on lingering.
Alternative: If you can't deal with any line, the downtown Honolulu location at 1104 Fort St Mall consistently has shorter waits. Same food, same prices, way fewer tourists.
The Atmosphere Inside
The vibe inside is authentic Japanese cafeteria. Warm wood tones, traditional lanterns hanging from the ceiling, and Japanese calligraphy art on the walls. There's a mural of a mountain from Kagawa Prefecture — the birthplace of Sanuki udon — that adds to the atmosphere. A sign near the door says "Save your energy, not the seats" — their way of saying don't send someone ahead to grab a table while you're still in line.
We sat at a window seat and could watch the line from outside while we ate. It's a packed, buzzy room — families, couples, solo travelers all shoulder to shoulder slurping noodles. Not a quiet dinner spot, but that's part of the charm. I really liked the Japanese vibe with the lanterns and the pictures on the wall.
The biggest complaint people have is that it gets hot inside — limited AC combined with hot soup, a crowded room, and Hawaiian weather. Wear something light.

Is Marugame Udon Waikiki Worth It?
Absolutely. For the price, the freshness, and the experience, there is nothing else like this in Waikiki. I've eaten at restaurants charging three times the price that didn't taste half as good. Two people stuffed for under $45 with food that's made fresh right in front of you — in one of the most expensive tourist neighborhoods in the United States.
The line is real, but it moves fast. The ordering system is confusing your first time, but now you know exactly how it works. And the food delivers.
I recommend Marugame Udon to everyone who visits Oahu. Whether you're a tourist on a budget or a local looking for a quick, delicious meal, this place earns every one of its 14,000+ Yelp reviews.

If Marugame Udon has you craving more Japanese noodles, here are a few other spots worth checking out:
TsuruTonTan (Royal Hawaiian Center) — Higher-end udon with creative fusion bowls. More expensive but a different experience. Momosan Ramen Waikiki — If you really want ramen specifically, Momosan by Iron Chef Morimoto is solid. Ezogiku Waikiki — Casual ramen spot that's been around for years. No-frills, reliable bowls. Ramen Nakamura — Another good ramen option if Marugame's line is too much.
But for value, freshness, and the overall experience? Marugame wins every time.
