Looking for the best sports bar in Honolulu? Pitch Sports Bar at SALT at Our Kakaako is it. Open since 2017, this SALT Kakaako restaurant combines game-day energy with something no other sports bar offers: a full sushi counter run by Chef Jon Tamashiro from Izakaya Kei, $3 happy hour hand rolls, and chef's omakase. Whether you're visiting from Waikiki or a local looking for the best happy hour Kakaako has to offer, Pitch delivers.
I stopped by on a recent afternoon to see if the hype was real. It is.

What Makes Pitch Different
This is a sports bar that takes its food as seriously as its game-day atmosphere. Pitch operates two distinct stations: a Kitchen Station serving local-style plates and American bar food, and a Sushi Station running a legitimate sushi program with hand rolls, nigiri, sashimi, and omakase.

Getting There from Waikiki
If you're looking for the best sports bar in Waikiki, you won't find it there — it's worth the short trip to Kakaako. SALT is about 1.5-2 miles from Waikiki, roughly 10-15 minutes by car. Uber/Lyft runs $10-15. The Waikiki Trolley also stops at SALT Honolulu if you prefer not to drive.

SALT Parking Rates
- First hour: FREE (no validation needed)
- With validation: $1/hr after ($2 for 2 hrs, $3 for 3 hrs, $4 for 4 hrs)
Compared to Waikiki parking ($5-15+/hour), this is a massive win — especially on game days when you might be there for 3-4 hours.
The Vibe: Japanese Izakaya Meets American Sports Bar
Walk into most sports bars in Waikiki and you know exactly what you're getting: TVs, beer, wings, maybe some sliders. Pitch throws that playbook out the window.
The moment you step inside, you notice two things. First, the massive orange koi fish mural wrapping around the dark walls, giving the space a moody Japanese izakaya feel. Second, the sushi counter with a glass case full of fresh fish — tuna, salmon, yellowtail, uni, the works. Behind it, sake bottles line wooden shelves and Funko Pops add a playful touch.
The space has a few distinct zones: the sushi counter for omakase and hand roll orders, booth seating along the mural wall, high-top tables near the bar, and the covered outdoor patio overlooking the SALT courtyard.
Game day at Pitch — full house but never feels overcrowded
Dog-Friendly Patio
Good news for dog owners: Pitch has a dog-friendly outdoor patio with six covered booths under the parking structure overhang. It's one of the few truly dog-friendly bars in Honolulu where you can actually eat a full meal with your pup.
Darts
Pitch has dartboards available all day: $1 per person for cricket or 501. They also run a monthly tournament on the first Wednesday of every month ($20 entry, blind draw teams, $100 gift card added to prize pot).
What to Order at Pitch Sports Bar
The Ginger Sauce Fried Rice ($17) with Garlic Chicken ($18) — under $40 for a filling meal for two
Kitchen Station Highlights
The Ginger Sauce Fried Rice ($17) is the sleeper hit of the menu. The rice has a distinctive green tint from the house ginger sauce, topped with two sunny-side eggs that create that perfect yolk-breaking moment. It's savory, slightly tangy, and filling enough to share (though you probably won't want to).
Pair it with the Garlic Chicken ($18) — crispy fried boneless chicken pieces tossed in garlic sauce with furikake. It's essentially elevated karaage, and the portion is generous.

Omakase at a Sports Bar? Yes, Really.
Here's the wildest part of Pitch: they offer omakase. At a sports bar. And it's legit — Chef Jon Tamashiro came from Izakaya Kei, and they literally knocked out a wall after COVID to build the sushi counter just for him.
Omakase Details

Reservations: Required 48 hours in advance
$95 — 12-course tasting menu

Where to Watch NFL in Honolulu
Pitch has become the go-to spot for NFL Sundays in Honolulu. They carry the NFL Sunday Ticket package, plus NBA and MLB packages — meaning they can show any game regardless of market.
During football season, Pitch opens 15 minutes before the first game kicks off. For Hawaii, when games start at 7 AM, doors open at 6:45 AM. Yes, there are people eating hand rolls before sunrise. This is Hawaii.
They also show UH football games for free, UFC fights, NBA, MLB, MLS, and major soccer matches. Multiple screens throughout the space mean you can usually request a specific game if it's not already on.
